History of Father’s Day The majority of people think that Mother’s Day and Father’s Day came in hand in hand, but in actual fact, Father’s Day was a more recent concept, unlike Mother’s Day that dates back hundreds of years. As story goes, the day was marked by Grace Golden Clayton in 1908 following a mine explosion in Fairmont, West Virginia which sadly killed over 360 men, leaving sons and daughters without a dad. Clayton realised the need, and love for these men by their families and began campaigning for a day to celebrate Father’s. Two years later in 1910, sons and daughters would wear roses to church which represented their love and admiration for their father - a red rose represented a living father, and a white rose to a deceased.
