Where do pies originate from?
Believe it or not, pies have impressively been around since the ancient Egyptians and were apparently made by early Romans who showcased their love and knowledge of this food delight throughout Europe. The first batches of pies were not the ones we know today, they were predominantly meat based - and the crust was the main enjoyment of this. As a result of its popularity, the word ‘pie’ was featured in the Oxford English Dictionary in the 14th Century. Impressive, although some foodies believe that fruit based pies wouldn’t have been created until around the 1500s.
